Due to Victorian e-bike legislation, we cannot perform servicing or repairs on electric bicycles that do not comply with legal definitions. As per Victoria Police:

  • A legal e-bike (an electrically powered-assisted cycle, or EPAC) must have a maximum continuous rated power output of no more than 250 watts, and the motor assistance must cut out above 25 km/h, with functioning pedals. Electric bike (e-bike) safety
  • Modifications such as toggle switches that override power limits, motors that continue to power above 25 km/h, a combined motor output over 250 W, throttle-only drive, or lack of functional pedals make the e-bike non-compliant.
  • Any e-bike exceeding these limits (for example, over 250 W) is considered a motor vehicle, not a bicycle, and thereby requires registration and a motorcycle licence to be legally used on public roads.
  • Penalties for riding a non-compliant or “overpowered” e-bike on public roads include fines — for instance, using an unregistered vehicle can attract a fine of $1,018. Bicycle Network

Because of these strict legal requirements and the serious risks involved, as a bike store we cannot take any chance of liability — we therefore will not service or repair non-compliant e-bikes.
